BEIJING - Chinese educational experts have stressed education on national security among the country's youth.

"Youth who live in a peaceful, stable environment for long are prone to think that national security is far away from them," Wu Yujun, professor at Beijing Normal University, told Xinhua ahead of the country's 4th National Security Education Day, which falls on Monday.

"Some lack the knowledge about the complicated environment and serious challenges our national security is facing," he added.

Wu called for the expansion in disciplines of national security education for the youth, as well as persistence and routinization of the education.

Subjects including ecological, cultural and technological security should all be included in the scenarios, he said.

Students should be aware that trivial matters such as saving water, looking after a tree contribute to the safeguarding of national security, according to Wu.

"Multidisciplinary education edifies the youth with a lasting influence on them, and will have more positive effects in the long term," Wu said.
