China's coast guard has said it allowed and supervised a Philippine resupply mission on Friday to a warship illegally grounded at Ren'ai Reef in the South China Sea.

In a statement released on Friday, China Coast Guard, or CCG, spokesman Liu Dejun said that, with permission from the Chinese side, the Philippines dispatched a civilian boat to deliver supplies to the grounded vessel.

"The CCG conducted inquiries, verification, and full supervision of the Philippine vessel throughout the operation," he said.

Liu expressed hope the Philippines will honor its commitments, work with China, and jointly manage the maritime situation.

He added that the China Coast Guard will continue to conduct lawful rights-protection and enforcement activities in the Nansha Islands, including Ren'ai Reef and nearby waters.
