Turing Award winner: AI for good needs US-China cooperation

The upcoming US visit by President Xi Jinping serves as a perfect opportunity for launching global AI cooperation led by China and the US, Joseph Sifakis, a Turing Award winner, told China Daily's Global Lens.

Instead of letting tech giants dominate the response to transformation brought about by AI, China and the United States — as the two AI superpowers — should take the lead in fostering state-led cooperation, he said.

Sifakis also advocated the building of a global AI governance framework, with the participation of Global South countries.
