Bernardo Mendia, secretary-general of the Portugal-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry, recently told China Daily's Global Lens that long-term planning, and a governance system that promotes officials based on proven performance are key to China's development. Long-term planning, he said, underpins stability and predictability — for investors and for the country itself. He called long-term planning China's "secret sauce" — the factor that has taken China from 1978 to becoming the world's second-largest economy. He added that a stable China with a long-term vision is injecting stability into an unstable world. (Reporter: Luan Ruiying, Video: Pan Yixuan, Intern: Gao Jiayi)
