Zhongwei opens 2026 Ningxia Super League season with 2-1 victory over Guyuan
Soccer fever is set to sweep Zhongwei, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, this summer and autumn as the city's division of the 2026 Ningxia Super League opened on Sunday, kicking off a months-long lineup of sporting and cultural events.
Nearly 3,000 spectators gathered at the soccer field of Ningxia University's Zhongwei campus for the opening match between the host Zhongwei team and the team from Guyuan. The event featured performances highlighting the area's culture and distinctive scenery before the home side secured a 2-1 victory.
According to organizers, the Zhongwei squad consists of 44 members, including 42 local players from government agencies, businesses, schools, and other walks of life, reflecting the growing popularity of grassroots sports.
The soccer league is just the beginning of Zhongwei's summer and autumn cultural and sports season. From June to October, the city will host a starlight music festival, a desert half-marathon, desert fitness games, and intangible cultural heritage performances as it seeks to enrich public life and further boost its profile as a destination for sports, culture, and tourism.
