Green agrees to a one-year, $27.7m contract to remain with the Warriors

SAN FRANCISCO — Draymond Green has agreed to a one-year, $27.7 million deal to return to the Golden State Warriors, a person familiar with the decision told reporters on Tuesday.

Green will sign the contract that essentially matches the deal he opted out of last month, before the Warriors made an unsuccessful bid to sign LeBron James, the person said.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal hadn't been announced.

ESPN first reported the deal.

Green is now set to play his 15th season with the Warriors, and if he plays in 51 games, he will join Stephen Curry as the only players in franchise history to appear in at least 1,000 contests.

Green, Curry and coach Steve Kerr are the main remaining pieces of the team from the dynasty that delivered four championships.

Golden State last won the title in 2022 and has not made it past the second round of the playoffs since then.

The Warriors missed the playoffs this past season when they lost to Phoenix in the play-in tournament.

Golden State tried to add James earlier this offseason, and Green waited to sign his deal until after James made his decision to sign with Philadelphia to give the Warriors more flexibility.

Green, Curry and Jimmy Butler are all entering the final seasons of their current contracts, although Curry could sign an extension starting late next month.

Green has been one of the best defensive players in the NBA since being drafted in the second round in 2012. He has made nine all-defensive teams and was named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2017.

He has averaged 8.7 points per game in his career, along with 6.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists. He averaged 8.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 68 games last season for Golden State.

Broome headed to Clippers

The Philadelphia 76ers have traded forward Johni Broome and a 2027 second-round draft pick to the Los Angeles Clippers for cash considerations.

In the deal announced Tuesday, the Clippers will receive the second-most favorable on Philadelphia's three second-round picks next year.

The move came on the heels of the 76ers' free-agent signing of James to a two-year, veterans' minimum contract last week.

The 76ers selected Broome with the 35th overall pick of the 2025 draft, but he was limited to 11 games, spending most of the season with Philadelphia's G League affiliate in Delaware. He averaged 21.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.5 blocked shots with the Blue Coats.

Jones back with Nuggets

Spencer Jones will return to Denver for a third season after the team matched the Oklahoma City Thunder's offer sheet, the Nuggets announced Monday.

The Thunder had offered a guaranteed two-year, $12 million offer sheet, according to ESPN.

The Nuggets signed Jones out of Stanford as a free agent in 2024. His retention as a restricted free agent brings with it severe financial implications for Denver, which faces a $32 million increase in current luxury taxes, according to multiple reports.

Jones started 37 of 64 games last season and averaged 5.5 points and 3.3 rebounds. He shot an NBA-best 69.2 percent on 3-pointers in the playoffs.
