In an exclusive conversation with Cultural Frontline, director Wen Muye, Egyptian teen star Omar Sherif, and talent producer Mohamed Osama, founder of Dragon Bridge Media, share the story behind the box-office hit Once Upon a Time in the Middle East.

For Wen, food is one of life's simplest pleasures — making it a powerful contrast to the abnormal reality of war. From a lavish breakfast to a single fried egg, every dish in the film carries an emotion particular to that moment.

The film is also a vivid example of China-Egypt cinematic collaboration. Omar, whose great-grandfather hailed from Shandong province, says his experiences in China have given him a strong sense of belonging and made him feel at home.

For Mohamed, cultural exchange is key to creating stories that cross borders. He hopes to help build stronger China-Egypt ties through film and bring more compelling stories to audiences worldwide.
