Over the past 20 years, the Beijing Xiangshan Forum has expanded its international role, bringing together defense officials, experts and scholars from around the world for dialogue, according to Jean Christophe Baron von Pfetten, chairman of the UK's Royal Institute for East West Strategic Studies.
He said the forum's unique value lies in bringing together people who rarely have the opportunity to meet. Recalling discussions among representatives from Ukraine, Russia and NATO at the 12th forum, he noted that China can provide an important platform for Track 1.5 and Track 2 dialogues.
