Chinese defense minister advocates global security cooperation at Xiangshan Forum

The Chinese military is willing to work with the armed forces of other countries to jointly implement the Global Security Initiative, strengthen mutual trust in security, and enhance international coordination on common security, Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun said at the 13th Beijing Xiangshan Forum on Wednesday.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Dong said the world is undergoing profound changes at an accelerating pace and that international security is at a fragile juncture. He stated that the concept of building a community with a shared future for humanity and the four major global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping are increasingly demonstrating their value in guiding the course of history.

Dong highlighted the importance of building consensus through a new security concept and safeguarding stability through multilateralism. He also called for countries to prevent risks through a clear understanding of history, resolve problems through dialogue and consultation, lay a solid foundation for security through common development, and deepen cooperation through action-oriented approaches to promote lasting peace and universal security in the world.

"The key to global security governance lies in action, while its ultimate test is effectiveness," Dong said.

He noted that the Chinese military is willing to work with armed forces around the world to jointly implement the Global Security Initiative, build greater mutual trust, strengthen international coordination on common security, and enhance their ability to safeguard security together.

It will also work to improve security governance in emerging fields and provide more public security goods, contributing to the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Beijing Xiangshan Forum. Themed "Build Consensus on Stability, Advance Security Governance Together," this year's forum has brought together about 2,000 guests, including government officials, experts, scholars, and observers from more than 100 countries, regions, and international organizations.
