A new cableway at Danxia Mountain, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Shaoguan, Guangdong province, was launched on Tuesday, greatly increasing the destination's visitor capacity.
The new cableway can transport up to 2,400 people per hour, six times the previous capacity, according to the operator. It is designed with four crystal cabins among the 26 new cabins to complement the sightseeing experience.
As the cabins gradually ascend, the red cliffs , clear waters of the Jinjiang River, and rolling peaks unfold from different angles.
Recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2015, Danxia Mountain draws millions of visitors each year, making it one of China's premier ecotourism destinations. The park's Bazhai scenic area is set to open in late September.
"With the introduction of new activities, Danxia Mountain is transitioning from traditional mountain climbing and sightseeing to a more diverse vacation experience," said Jiang Wenhong, vice-mayor of Shaoguan.
New climbing routes, mountain loop trails, night tours, and educational programs have also been introduced.
