NAGOYA -- China swept the men's and women's golf team titles on Saturday at the 2026 Asian Games, securing its first gold medals in the sport, while South Korea's Kim Joo-hyung and India's Pranavi Urs won the men's and women's individual titles.

Yin Ruoning, Liu Yan and Zhang Weiwei won the women's team title with a four-round total of 538 strokes, eight ahead of India. Chinese Taipei took bronze. Liu shot a closing 66 and Yin a 67 to deliver China's first Asian Games golf gold.

Yin, 24, who had taken team bronze at the Asian Games in both 2018 and 2023, said the Asiad represented the highest level of competition in Asia. "Standing on top of the podium for the first time, watching our national flag raised and hearing our national anthem played, it's a breakthrough for Chinese golf. I hope this victory will also help the sport grow in China," she said.

Ding Wenyi, Zheng Yunhe and Jin Zihao completed China's team double in the men's event with 532 strokes, two ahead of South Korea, while host Japan took bronze. It was China's 166th gold at Aichi-Nagoya, marking its best performance at an overseas Asian Games, with the previous record of 165 coming from the Doha Games in 2006.

"We came here as underdogs. I'm very proud of what we've achieved," Jin said.

In the men's individual event, Kim, known as Tom Kim on the PGA Tour, closed with a six-under-par 64 for an 18-under total of 262.

Japan's Kazuki Higa, Thailand's Sadom Kaewkanjana and Ding finished three strokes back on 265. Higa took silver and Kaewkanjana bronze after a playoff, leaving Ding fourth.

Urs overcame a triple bogey at the third hole to finish the women's individual event with an even-par 70 and a 15-under total of 265. She held off Yin and Singapore's Shannon Tan by one stroke to become India's first women golf champion at the Asian Games.

Yin took silver on the first playoff hole, making par to Tan's bogey. Tan delivered Singapore its first Asian Games medal in golf with a bronze.
