Justin Yifu Lin, former chief economist of the World Bank and dean of the Institute of New Structural Economics at Peking University, said during an interview with China Perspectives that facing the US' bullying tariffs, any individual country attempting to compromise and negotiate with the US will merely embolden the US to make even more demands.
Even though the US economy is large, it only makes up 15 percent of the global trade. If the rest of the world, accounting for 85 percent of international trade, unites and continues to engage in economic and trade exchanges in a more open and mutually beneficial manner, the US will ultimately end up isolating itself and continue to suffer greater losses.
