South Korea-born giant panda cub named Shu Bao on 100th day

SEOUL - A giant panda cub born in South Korea made its first public appearance on Friday at Everland, the country's largest theme park in Yongin, about 40 km south of the capital Seoul.

Everland also announced the 100-day-old cub's name on the same day, naming it "Shu Bao."

Kang Cheol-won, a giant panda keeper at Everland, said that following Fu Bao, Rui Bao and Hui Bao, Shu Bao is the fourth giant panda born in South Korea, expressing hope that it will bring joy to more people, just as its older sisters have done.

Visitor Jeong Da-hyeon said she had been following the growth of the panda family and was delighted to witness the arrival of a new member.

Shu Bao's parents, Le Bao and Ai Bao, arrived in South Korea in 2016 and began a 15-year stay at Panda World at Everland.

Shu Bao was born on June 3, weighing 171 grams. It is the third successful natural breeding of giant pandas in South Korea, following the birth of Fu Bao in 2020 and twin cubs Rui Bao and Hui Bao in 2023.
