Guyi Garden, Shanghai

Located in Shanghai's Jiading district, Guyi Garden dates back to the Jiajing period (1522-66) of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Its name draws inspiration from a verse in the Book of Songs describing lush, graceful bamboo, and the garden took its present name after an expansion in the 18th century.

One of Shanghai's five major classical gardens, Guyi Garden cradles waterside pavilions and winding waterways within deep bamboo groves. Key landmarks include Yiye Hall and Xi'e Pond. Ancient architecture and stone relics dot the landscape, while each season brings a unique beauty — embodying the elegant, simple, and understated aesthetic of traditional Jiangnan gardens.
