China urges New Zealand to stop spreading false information about cybersecurity: spokesman

BEIJING -- China has urged New Zealand to stop spreading false information about cyber security related to China, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Thursday.

Guo made the remarks at a regular press briefing when asked about reports that New Zealand's cyber security agency had said that China was the country's most persistent and capable state-backed cyber threat.

"China opposes and resolutely fights hacker attacks in accordance with law, and opposes the dissemination of cyber security disinformation for political purposes," Guo said.

China urged the relevant agency in New Zealand to stop spreading lies and stoking discord, and instead do more to foster mutual understanding and trust between the two countries, he said.
