China's top diplomat Wang Yi said on Tuesday that Beijing will continue to contribute and play a constructive role in achieving a comprehensive ceasefire and lasting peace in the Middle East while meeting in Beijing with Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, the United Arab Emirates' presidential special envoy to China.
As the Middle East undergoes profound changes, conflicts are dragging on at multiple levels, and spillover effects continue to weigh on regional security and development, said Wang, China's foreign minister.
He said choosing peace over war, dialogue over confrontation, and fairness over bullying has increasingly become the common pursuit and shared aspiration of the people across the region.
China has always been a builder of peace, a promoter of stability, and a contributor to development in the Middle East, he added.
Wang said that no matter how the international and regional landscapes evolve, China is ready to work with the UAE, under the guidance of the two heads of state, to keep moving the bilateral relationship to a higher level.
Calling China and the UAE good friends who trust each other, Wang said the two countries enjoy strong political mutual trust, and practical cooperation has delivered tangible results.
He said their relationship has gone beyond the bilateral scope and become a model for Global South countries in jointly pursuing development and revitalization.
Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak briefed Wang on the current situation in the Gulf and the Middle East, as well as the work done by the UAE.
The UAE is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China to jointly promote regional peace and stability, the special envoy added.
He said China has always been a dependable and reliable partner for the UAE, and expressed hope that the two sides will elevate their comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.
