Mt. Danxiashan, located in Renhua county of Shaoguan city in Guangdong province, covers a total area of 292 square kilometers. Nestled within the Nanling Mountain range is a cluster of red sandstone peaks. This distinctive landscape is more than just a visual marvel; it is the global birthplace of the "Danxia landscape", the red-cliff terrain whose scientific name originated here in the late 1920s and was formally defined in 1939. Inscribed as a World Heritage site as part of China Danxia in 2010 and recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2015, it now draws millions of visitors each year as one of China's premier ecotourism destinations. Once called Shaoshi Mountain in ancient records, it took its present name in the early Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), and is now both a world-renowned mountain and a model of green, harmonious ecology.
